Kindergarten and first grade are deemed to be the “window of opportunity” to prevent long- term reading problems. Without early intervention, the “reading gap” between struggling readers and their peers continues to widen over time.
Small Group Intervention
-
Students
This class is aimed at students in grades K-2 who are struggling in reading, writing, or math. No formal diagnosis is required. Students who receive early intervention consistently do not fall behind their peers and experience fewer emotional struggles.
-
Group Format
Sessions are targeted to meet students learning needs in a collaborative and engaging way. Students learn alongside peers through multisensory activities and games to build skills, confidence, and understanding. Lessons are planned to meet students individual needs and help them progress in their learning goals.
-
Language Arts
Using research-backed methodologies and multisensory instruction, students develop phonemic awareness, phonics, and letter/sound recognition. Leading to decoding, encoding, vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension. In a supportive environment, students are systematically taught new language skills and have opportunities to practice.
-
Math
Students learn best when they can see, touch, and maneuver math concepts before moving into the more abstract symbols. Math sessions are hands-on and allow students to develop a deep understanding of number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Games, challenges, and the use of concrete resources help to keep lessons fun and engaging. Concepts are linked to ‘real-life’ scenarios through problem solving skill development.
-
Registration
Sessions are held in small groups (5 max). To ensure consistency, advanced group enrollment is required and 2 weeks notice is required for termination.
